Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to lead our SEND provision in a vibrant primary school in Colchester. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering high-quality education to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Manage the SEND Provision: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Collaborate with Teachers and Parents: Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for SEND students.
  • Manage and Support a Team: Lead a team of SEND Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), providing guidance, training, and development.
  • Foster a Positive Learning Environment: Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the well-being and academic success of all students.
  • Monitor and Assess Progress: Regularly monitor and assess the progress of students, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and school policies.
  • Provide Training and Support: Provide training and support to staff on SEND best practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Main Point of Contact: Act as the main point of contact for parents and carers regarding SEND issues and support.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): With additional SENCO qualifications or experience.
  • Proven Experience: Proven experience in teaching and supporting children with SEND, particularly non-verbal autistic children.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students and staff.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection: A strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
