Meat Processing Operatives

Major Talent is seeking a skilled Meat Processing Operative to join our team at our Cookstown site. As a key member of our production team, you will play a vital role in the preparation and processing of pig slaughter and butchery.
Job PurposeThe successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking specific tasks, including specialized knife or cutting tasks, to ensure the efficient and safe production of high-quality meat products.
Key Responsibilities- Adhere to strict Health & Safety rules and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Dress and trim carcasses against strict specifications, maintaining hygiene and quality standards.
- Operate machinery used in the dressing process, including splitting saws and electric trimmers.
- Remove skin/membranes using designated machinery, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Cut, de-bone, and trim pork Middles, Legs, or Shoulders against strict specifications.
- Cut and butcher pork products to pre-set standards, maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Minimize waste by harvesting and collecting trims/off-cuts in designated areas.
- Identify errors/faults and take appropriate steps to rectify them.
- Adjust machine settings to handle changes from one size/type of product to another.
- Handle products and equipment with care, avoiding unnecessary damage.
- Maintain own knife and keep it sharp.
- Work with FSA to rectify carcases.
- Report faulty machinery to Chargehand or Supervisor immediately.
- Ensure hygiene and cleanliness procedures are followed at all times.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Previous experience in a slaughter environment, with the ability to demonstrate understanding and undertaking of skilled slaughter roles.
- Demonstrated skill and experienced use of knife and slaughter-line machinery, including hog saws and bladed machines.
- Demonstrated skill and experienced use of a knife and/or bladed machine to effectively de-bone and trim pork middles/legs/shoulders.
- Attention to detail and good observational skills to spot faults/contamination and report them accordingly.
- Ability to work quickly and safely to meet production targets.
- Good team working skills and the ability to work as part of a team/line or individually.
- Ability to follow strict health & safety guidelines and adhere to any H&S updates.
- Ability to work at all times to Site quality procedures.
- Patience in carrying out repetitive tasks and maintaining required standards while considering the safety of self and fellow workers.
- Self-motivation and reliability.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to change, occasionally at short notice.
