About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Decontamination Technician to join our Sterile Service Unit and Endoscopy Reprocessing Unit at Colchester Hospital. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective reprocessing of surgical instruments and flexible endoscopes, contributing to the high standards of patient care we uphold.
Your Responsibilities
- Operate decontamination equipment proficiently.
- Maintain accurate stock control procedures.
- Safely handle and process reusable medical devices, including lifting heavy theatre sets.
- Collaborate effectively with the team to ensure smooth workflow and service delivery.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for clear and concise interaction with colleagues.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate and thorough decontamination processes.
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills for record-keeping and documentation.
- A commitment to teamwork and a willingness to learn new procedures.
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English (grade 2-4).
Training and Development
Full training will be provided to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for this role. You will participate in a structured training program covering all aspects of decontamination within both the Sterile Service Unit and Endoscopy Reprocessing Unit.
Working Hours
This position operates on a 4-week rotational shift pattern, requiring flexibility to work early, late, night shifts, and weekends on a rostered basis. This includes covering both Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Bank Holidays.
