Core Purpose of the Role:


To deliver high-quality dual diagnosis assistance through comprehensive assessments, tailored support planning, coaching, and motivational interviewing for individuals facing co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges, facilitating their progress in recovery.

To collaborate with Senior Recovery Workers in conducting strengths-based assessments and safety planning for individuals dealing with substance use issues.


  • Co-develop group sessions for individuals focusing on dual diagnosis topics, including but not limited to interactions between substances and mental health medications, the impact of substance use, healthy lifestyle choices, treatment options for substance misuse, and the recovery process.
  • To co-create training modules, including concise workshops for staff on various aspects of dual diagnosis, such as recognizing signs of substance use, understanding its effects, the recovery process, and available treatment options.
  • To establish a resource database for the team, encompassing links to local and national agencies related to substance use and mental health.
  • To effectively communicate with other organizations, particularly those specializing in substance misuse and dual diagnosis, alongside the Key Senior Recovery Worker, to support client engagement in the development and execution of peer group work and staff training, emphasizing strengths and capabilities.
  • To maintain accurate records of attendance for both service users in group sessions and staff in training activities. Policy and Practice
  • To possess knowledge of and adhere to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • To actively participate in regular one-on-one supervisions, annual evaluations, and seek learning opportunities within the service and organization, aiming to minimize hospital admissions so that 85% of service users experience no acute mental health inpatient admissions per quarter; understanding the legal implications of working with individuals using illegal substances in a residential context.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of substance use and medical contraindications, along with the ability to locate further information in this domain.
  • Capability to assess and adapt to different learning styles to ensure effective training delivery.
  • Proficient IT skills, including a solid understanding of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet functionalities.
  • Exceptional literacy and numeracy skills, capable of producing clear training materials, case documentation, advocacy reports, and monitoring records.
