Job Title: Commercial Manager

Babcock International Group is seeking a skilled Commercial Manager to join our team at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site in Plymouth, Devon. As a Commercial Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting our Major Infrastructure Project (MIP) portfolio and providing commercial expertise to internal stakeholders.

The Role

As a Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for providing commercial support to our MIP portfolio, including tendering and contract reviews, processes, policies, and commercial risks. You will also be responsible for developing positive customer relationships and negotiating price, NEC4 terms, and scope.

  • Provide commercial expertise and governance to internal stakeholders for tenders and contract reviews, processes, policies, and commercial risks.
  • Be competent and confident when interacting with stakeholders and will work to develop positive customer relationships in order to represent the company to negotiate price, NEC4 terms, and scope.
  • Oversee the production of change orders to a Qualifying Defence Contract (QDC) together with gathering and assessing robust Appropriate Attributable and Reasonable (AAR) evidence to support contract change.
  • Act as an escalation point for high-risk, commercial issues.
  • Provide advice and drafting in relation to client and supplier NEC4 terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with all internal processes.

This role is full-time, 35 hours per week, and provides hybrid working arrangements. We offer a competitive salary, benefits package, and opportunities for professional development.

Essential Experience

  • Significant commercial experience in robust management of large and complex construction contracts, bids, and change initiatives in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrable evidence of developing effective customer relationships and confident at negotiating independently within agreed delegations.
  • Knowledge of NEC4 ECC and PSC terms.
  • Ability to effectively lead and develop a team.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to identify commercial risks, propose steps to mitigate, and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level (ideally Business, Law, MRICS, MCIOB, or similar), equivalent qualification, or relevant experience.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
