Highways Operative

We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our Highways team at Totally Local Company. As a Highways Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs and improvements to Stockport's highways and footways.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out repairs and improvements to built environment infrastructure, including modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping, and drainage repair.
  • Apply safe methods of working through the use of personal protective equipment, correct manual handling, and the use of small plant and equipment.
  • Work safely and efficiently, adhering to Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act, and safe methods of working.
  • Operate and maintain a range of equipment, including excavators, roller/breaker, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws, and other highways-related equipment.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrate competency in working on minor civil engineering projects in a built and operational environment.
  • Demonstrate health and safety awareness and its application to a project.
  • Demonstrate operational record keeping, including accidents, near misses, delivery notes, requisition notes, and safe methods of working.
  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 or above in Construction Operations or be able to work towards gaining the NVQ.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of design specifications and drawings in an operational environment.
  • Demonstrate training and certification in the use of small plant, such as circular cutting devices, small compaction units, pedestrian and sit-on vibrating rollers, and other small plant and equipment.
