PhD Researcher in Glycosaminoglycan Biology
2 months ago
Project Overview:
The University of Nottingham is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join an interdisciplinary team investigating the role of glycosaminoglycans in breast cancer cell biology. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel recombinant antibodies and their application in mapping pathology-related changes in glycosaminoglycans.
Research Background:
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are a class of biomolecules that play critical roles in various biological processes, including cell signaling and development. Despite their importance, the molecular structure of GAGs and their biological functions are not yet fully understood. This project aims to address this knowledge gap by isolating recombinant antibodies that bind to GAGs and characterizing their binding properties.
Methodology:
The PhD student will employ next-generation phage display technology to screen vast antibody-phage libraries and identify specific binders. The student will then clone and express the binders and characterize their binding properties against breast cancer cell populations and defined GAG structures.
Supervision and Collaboration:
The student will be embedded within a highly active phage-display group at the University of Nottingham and have the opportunity to interact with the Glycoweb team, visit collaborators' labs, and extend their research knowledge and collaborator network.
Requirements:
Applicants should have a minimum of a 2.1 undergraduate biological science degree or a minimum of a 2.2 degree and a Master's degree in a related subject.
