Key Responsibilities


• Lead the outdoor access and countryside operations, ensuring adherence to legislation, including the Council's obligations under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act and the Countryside (Scotland) Act.


• Contribute to the management and advancement of the Open Space service.


• Ensure robust Health and Safety management across all services and functions under the role's purview.


• Oversee daily operations of the Outdoor Access and Countryside service, assisting in the strategic development and execution of plans and projects aimed at sustainable service delivery.


• Address inquiries and complaints from individuals, user groups, and businesses in a constructive and informative manner.

Candidate Profile


• Extensive experience in managing and leading outdoor access, countryside, or related fields.


• Strong understanding of Outdoor Access legislation and experience in addressing outdoor access and countryside challenges.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage in negotiations and deliver presentations.


• Proven experience in collaborative partnerships.


• Skilled in dispute resolution and conflict management.


• Proficient in researching and managing complex issues.


• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Express.


• Experience in budget management and monitoring.


• Relevant qualifications such as HND in Recreational Land Management, Countryside Management, or similar fields, or equivalent transferable skills and experience.


• Knowledge of outdoor access, open space, and countryside environmental legislation.


• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.


• Capable of project management and adaptable to changing priorities.


• Proven ability to perform well under pressure.


• Proficient IT skills with a solid understanding of Microsoft Office.


• Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle competing demands.


• Strong problem-solving abilities and self-motivation.


• Willingness to travel between various work locations as required.


• Excellent stakeholder management capabilities.
