Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing services to offenders in an adult correctional institution. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will assess offenders' health problems and needs, prepare and administer prescribed medications, and initiate emergency interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess offenders' health problems and needs, and develop and implement medical/nursing guidelines
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications, and initiate emergency interventions as needed
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff and education programs for offenders on healthy lifestyles
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing program
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia RN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment, mental health settings, acute care, and/or community health settings
