This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care in our Geriatric Medicine department. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in helping to improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience.

Main Responsibilities
  • To provide senior clinical decision making on a geriatric base ward, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care to patients.
  • To provide clinical support for specialist interest outpatient services, as agreed with the service.
  • To participate in the out-of-hours Medical Consultant Rota for either the Acute Medical Unit or Clinical Decisions Unit.
  • To lead on the implementation of Red to Green processes on the ward, ensuring the delivery of efficient and effective clinical care.
  • To supervise and train junior medical staff, promoting their development and growth.
  • To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care, adhering to GMC Guidance and reporting any bad practice.
  • To participate in audit and quality improvement activities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care and services.
  • To work closely with other specialties, departments, and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the Clinical Management Group.
  • To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents are reported in a timely manner.
  • To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning, ensuring ongoing professional development.
  • To undertake Mandatory and Statutory training as determined by the Trust and Clinical Management Group.
  • To deliver undergraduate teaching as a clinical teacher, promoting the development of future healthcare professionals.
Person Specification
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MB BS or Equivalent
  • MRCP/MRCS or Equivalent
  • Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or equivalent
Experience and Clinical Skills
  • Fully trained in Geriatric Medicine
  • Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan
  • Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems
  • Demonstrates clear, logical thinking and analytical approach
  • Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest
Communication Skills
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
  • To be empathic and sensitive, with the capacity to take others' perspectives and treat others with understanding
  • Highly Developed Emotional Intelligence
  • High standard of presentation both written and verbal
  • Demonstrable track record of successful change management
  • Proven ability to maintain focus in a demanding environment
Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Effective participation in and a commitment to clinical audit
  • Participation in a quality improvement programme
  • Experience of quality improvement work and audit
  • Undergone training in teaching and willingness to organise relevant audit activities including quality improvement evidence
  • Completion of formal courses in Audit and quality improvement
  • Published Audit including quality improvement
Research
  • Experience of and a commitment to training/teaching undergraduate and postgraduates
  • Appraisal and assessment skills
  • Ability to assess clinical competencies
  • Enthusiastic and ability to inspire and lead others
  • Willingness to develop new approaches to teaching
  • Post Graduate qualification in teaching and training
