Position Overview

An Offshore Wind Array Cable Engineer is sought for a prominent renewable energy organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the engineering processes related to the supply, jointing, termination, and testing of array cables, ensuring adherence to high voltage cable (HVC) standards throughout project development and implementation.
  • Facilitate technical collaboration within the cable package by delivering HVC technical insights to internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Ensure that the technical specifications from internal stakeholders are integrated into the supplier's design as necessary.
  • Assess and evaluate the technical proposals submitted by suppliers.
  • Confirm that the detailed design meets certification requirements and is duly approved.
  • Validate the supplier's product design by reviewing engineering documentation or conducting independent analyses using approved in-house tools.
  • Review and endorse the design of cable routes and routing plans on offshore substations (OSS) and floating offshore units (FOU).
  • Contribute technical expertise to project risk assessments, change requests, variation orders, and claims.
  • Manage changes that are not covered under formal change requests.
  • Provide input for technical audits and engage in quality audits alongside the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) team.
  • Define and coordinate project-specific inspection and testing activities, including Performance Qualification Testing (PQT), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Review and approve quality-related documentation from suppliers, including Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Plans (QPs), and test reports.
  • Develop or modify inspection checklists for testing activities during manufacturing and termination phases, utilizing Digital Inspection Tools (DIT).
  • Prepare and assign asset codes for project documentation.
  • Compile the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Level 2 Manual, along with spare parts and tools registers for handover to the O&M team.
  • Be accountable for the electrical and thermal aspects of cables and associated connection systems.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of high voltage cable systems, including electrical and thermal considerations, with the capability to interpret industry standards and technical requirements.
  • Proven ability to devise effective technical solutions to challenges encountered during project development and execution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of both practical and theoretical experience in high voltage array cables and accessories.
  • Demonstrated project engineering skills, including technical proficiency, integrity, communication, adaptability, teamwork, and decision-making; experience with client IT tools and procedures is preferred.
