Role Overview

The Financial Governance Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and stability of women@thewell. This includes maintaining an overview of the organization's financial affairs, ensuring effective financial measures, controls, and procedures are in place, and reporting to the Board at regular intervals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and review the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
  • Develop and implement robust financial policies, including those covering financial reserves and cost management.
  • Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity, overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems.
  • Support the development and review of the charity's risk-management process, collaborating with the finance manager to lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.
  • Ensure that accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.

Trustee Responsibilities

As a member of the Board of Trustees, the Financial Governance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit, complying with the charity's governing document and the law, and acting in the charity's best interests.

Requirements

  • Belief in the values and mission of women@thewell.
  • Ability to listen, question, deliberate, and plan collectively and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to learn about or has experience with the work of a small charity trustee board.
  • Ability to play an active role in the Board's collective responsibilities and offer or develop skills in an area the board may need.

Location

The role requires attendance at Board meetings in London (up to 5 in a year) and the ability to contribute to the charity's work remotely.
