Financial Accountant Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at The Diocese of Canterbury. As a Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial processes and information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the restricted and designated funds of the Diocese, preparing monthly reports and year-end schedules.
  • Proactively review the portfolio of restricted funds to ensure full utilization against unrestricted expenditure.
  • Take the lead on the re-organization of investment funds to ensure efficient month-end processes.
  • Manage the fixed asset journals and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy.
  • Prepare VAT Return workings and associated reconciliations.
  • Deliver the monthly close process, analyzing transactions and preparing required journals.
  • Proactively challenge and improve processes to ensure that currently held information or journals meet the audit standard.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified or with a professional accountancy, finance, or related qualification.
  • Experience in VAT return preparation and compliance.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and proactive in reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and clearing/or allocating balances.
  • Detail-oriented approach towards accuracy and completeness in financial records and reports.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Excel, including pivot tables, sumif/sumifs, and vlookups.
  • Thorough understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Natural communicator with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
