Position Title: Deputy Manager x 2 (Sylva Gardens)

Employment Package: 37 hours per week, Full-time, Permanent role

Work Location: Sylva Gardens, Children's Residential Home, Llandudno, Conwy, North Wales

Job Category:
Management, Social Care

Informal Discussion Contact: Fiona Dennison, Section Manager

Are you dedicated to positively impacting the lives of young individuals?

We are committed to collaboratively making a significant difference in the lives of children and young people, ensuring they 'experience the best life possible' by providing a nurturing and supportive environment tailored to their unique needs.

This objective will be accomplished by centering the child/young person in all support planning and crafting strategies that empower them to develop essential life skills, fostering independence and community inclusion based on their personal priorities.

As the Deputy Manager, you will hold accountability for the operational oversight of the team of residential support workers within the children's residential home.

A primary responsibility will be to advocate for and implement 'Active Support', 'Positive Behaviour Support', and the 'Reduction of Restrictive Practices' as fundamental approaches to enable children and young people to engage meaningfully in their daily lives; nurturing strong relationships with their peers and caregivers, enhancing independent living skills, and becoming active participants in their communities through the delivery of high-quality care.

In your role as Deputy Manager, you will assist the registered manager in:

  • Overseeing the execution of operational responsibilities
  • Ensuring adherence to the standards set within the regulated service.
  • Guaranteeing service delivery aligns with the Social Services and Well-being Act.
The Deputy Manager will supervise the staff team to ensure:

The needs of children and young people are prioritized in their care, empowering them to have a voice and control over the outcomes that contribute to their well-being.

Children and young people utilizing the service are encouraged to engage actively in the design and delivery of the service by establishing communication systems tailored to each child/young person, ensuring they have a clear voice regarding what matters to them.

Expectations of You:

You will be responsible for ensuring the daily operations of the service are conducted in a manner that fosters continuous improvement, enabling children and young people to achieve their fullest potential; ensuring they receive the appropriate support at the right time; maintaining their safety and protection from harm.

Serve as a positive role model for all team members regarding workplace conduct, providing each team member with the necessary support to perform their duties effectively, leveraging their strengths.

Maintain open and constructive communication with children/young people, their families, social workers, and other professionals as required, fostering relationships built on trust, transparency, honesty, and respect within the professional boundaries of the role.

Provide workplace supervision and guidance for support workers, ensuring they operate safely and in accordance with the standards required of a Social Care Worker under the Social Care Wales Code of Conduct.

Qualifications We Seek:

A QCF Level 3 in Leadership for Children and Young People or an equivalent NVQ is required for registration with Social Care Wales as a children's residential worker.

Ability to achieve City and Guilds Level 4 in Preparing for Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care.

A minimum of 5 years' experience and knowledge of working with children/young people, including those with complex needs and challenging behaviors.
