London, Greater London, United Kingdom Liberty Specialty Markets Full time

About the Role:

This position is integral to the Underwriting MI Analytics team, specifically serving as a dedicated liaison with the Portfolio Management team. The role emphasizes extensive engagement with this sector of the business to enhance data quality and facilitate data-driven decision-making that supports our underwriting strategy. Responsibilities include gathering requirements, collaborating with Portfolio Management, Underwriters, and analysts, and generating high-quality analytical reports. Furthermore, the role aims to advance the service by providing additional insights and trends that deliver value and information to end users. This involves actively seeking new sources of pertinent data and exploring the potential of advanced technologies, including machine learning, to optimally support LSM and Portfolio Management.

The responsibilities encompass the entire Portfolio Management team, covering both Specialty and Commercial aspects, in partnership with the UW Analytics Lead. As such, this role requires ownership and accountability across various Portfolio Analysts, necessitating effective management of relationships and work delivery. It is a pivotal function within the Data & Analytics team, presenting significant opportunities and responsibilities for oversight.

Ownership of workload and coordination in alignment with the expectations of the Portfolio Management team is essential. This ensures that their MI and analytical requirements are met, fostering a reputation as a trusted business advisor while remaining responsive to incoming requests. The role will also enhance the MI service to provide additional insights and trends, actively seeking new relevant data sources to best support LSM underwriters.

Time allocation will involve developing reports using PowerBI and Alteryx, supported by SQL SSMS skills and some Excel. Additional onboarding of new Salesforce data and other data streams will be necessary. Remaining time will be dedicated to supporting projects and business initiatives, improving data and analysis, handling ad-hoc tasks, and collaborating with the business to ensure optimal approaches to data and reporting.

About the Department & Team:

The MI Department is a large team dedicated to providing comprehensive data, analytics, and insights services to the business. The team fosters an excellent and inclusive culture designed to support and develop our analysts. As a business-facing team, we possess a range of technical abilities and business knowledge that enable us to effectively service our diverse stakeholders. We encourage collaborative and open teamwork, providing a platform for collective delivery of key services that enhance Liberty's effectiveness and decision-making processes.

In this role, the MI department will serve as the foundational network supporting the Portfolio MI Analyst as they enhance our service with Portfolio Management. This team supports several key UW departments, each with varying skills, capabilities, and requirements. The Portfolio Management team comprises highly engaged stakeholders who require regular and significant assistance with our data and reporting offerings. The MI function and Portfolio Management have successfully collaborated to complement each other, providing Underwriters and Senior Executive members with the necessary information and analytical insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Portfolio Management and Underwriting with data and analysis.
  • Act as the primary contact for the MI Department in this domain, providing relevant business insights.
  • Gather and comprehend requirements for new PowerBI reports and deliver them effectively.
  • Handle complex ad-hoc requests with precision.
  • Collaborate closely with supporting service functions to enhance Portfolio Management engagement and solutions.
  • Promote the utilization of data and elevate the profile of MI within LSM.
  • Investigate new software and concepts that may benefit MI or LSM.
  • Research new data availability to enrich current data offerings and reports.
  • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making within LSM through training and education.
  • Produce clear and concise reports to analyze business activities.
  • Manage stakeholders across multiple global offices, ensuring effective communication.
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably requested.

Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements is a core aspect of this role, alongside demonstrating behaviors aligned with the Conduct Risk Policy. This includes understanding responsibilities related to regulatory and internal requirements and proactively ensuring compliance at all times.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with clients and colleagues to ascertain their information needs.
  • Experience working within a larger team, demonstrating effective teamwork.
  • Understanding of the insurance function and its data requirements.
  • Proficient in PowerBI, with a proven ability to build high-quality reports.
  • Strong business data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capability to present complex information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant work experience in a similar role within the financial sector.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL databases, with the ability to write queries.
  • Demonstrates initiative in task execution and prioritization of stakeholder needs.
  • Effectively utilizes and manipulates data from databases and IT systems to produce qualitative insights for the business.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Understanding of alternative ETL systems, such as Alteryx.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint functionality and Power BI administration.
  • Progress towards ACII certification.
  • Previous experience utilizing Power Automate to deliver value to end users.
