About the Role

The Head of Subject - Secondary Maths will provide strategic leadership for the Secondary Maths programme, driving educational excellence and subject expertise across the Ark Schools network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive programme strategy, aligning with Ark Schools' mission and vision.
  • Lead cross-functional projects, collaborating with stakeholders to drive programme impact and outcomes.
  • Stay abreast of sector developments, legislative changes, and research findings, ensuring the programme remains at the forefront of educational best practice.
  • Establish and maintain a shared understanding of subject excellence with the Ark subject team, driving a cohesive vision for programme implementation and evolution.
  • Design and deliver a rigorous subject-specific learning and development programme for AC+ teams, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to drive programme impact.
  • Monitor and evaluate programme implementation, impact, and perceptions, informing educational priorities and driving continuous improvement.
  • Review and quality assure existing programme resources, developing a contextual understanding of strengths and weaknesses to inform programme development.
  • Provide school support for Ark schools, grounded in AC+'s codified school support model, to drive high-quality programme implementation and subject outcomes.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key Ark School stakeholders, ensuring proactive, effective, and timely communication.
  • Ensure assessment writing is timely, rigorous, and meets school and MAT needs.
  • Coordinate subject team members to manage routine programme maintenance, including high-quality assessment writing, curriculum development, and pedagogical quality assurance.
  • Develop clear pedagogical rationale and briefs, training subject team members and external curriculum designers to deliver consistently high-quality pedagogical content.
  • Lead pedagogical quality assurance reviews, ensuring programme resources meet the highest standards of educational excellence.
  • Represent Ark and AC+ approaches at relevant events and conferences, building the programme's external profile and sharing best practice.

Requirements:

  • Education to degree level.
  • Significant commitment to ongoing professional development and specialist qualifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of education developments and best practice in teaching.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Expert communicator.
  • Strategic outlook when making decisions, recognizing the wider impact.
  • Track record of providing professional development to teachers, including coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Experienced and confident leader with a proven ability to lead and implement change effectively and sustainably.
  • Ability to probe, challenge, and question appropriately and strive for continual improvement.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Vision aligned with AC+'s high aspirations and expectations of self and others.
