Role Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Safeguarding Case Officer is to evaluate risks and conduct thorough investigations regarding allegations or concerns about individuals who may present a safeguarding threat to children or Adults at Risk (AAR) within the football community. This role involves the implementation of appropriate risk management strategies as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently manage a caseload of referrals: Adhere to The FA's policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks while investigating allegations related to individuals involved in football.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments: Recommend risk management plans to relevant safeguarding managers based on findings.
  • Prepare detailed reports: Compile documentation for the Safeguarding Review Panel concerning cases that require formal orders in line with safeguarding regulations.
  • Ensure timely case progression: Advance cases to resolution within established timelines.
  • Maintain accurate case records: Document all actions taken on cases using The FA's Case Management system, ensuring compliance with data protection policies.
  • Fulfill legal obligations: Ensure compliance with the Protection of Freedoms Act, including necessary referrals to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Collaboration and Support:
  • Work in partnership with colleagues and external organizations, including County FAs and statutory agencies.
  • Support Designated Safeguarding Officers and contribute to training initiatives at regional or national levels.
  • Engage in self-reflection and seek feedback to identify areas for professional development.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and undertake additional tasks as required.
  • Adhere to company policies to maintain health, safety, and wellbeing standards.
  • Complete a DBS check as part of The FA's commitment to safeguarding.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Essential: A degree in Social Work, Law, or a related field, with a minimum of three years' experience in child protection or risk assessment.
  • Proven knowledge of safeguarding frameworks and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive reports and conduct risk assessments.
  • Experience in handling sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and flexibility regarding hours and travel.
  • Desirable: Experience in a regulatory environment and knowledge of child protection legislation.
  • Familiarity with mental wellbeing strategies and case management for adults at risk.
