RINA's Maritime Safety Consulting division is seeking a highly skilled Safety Engineering Consultant to become part of a dedicated and expanding team, serving Defence clients across various naval platforms, including surface vessels, carriers, submarines, and unmanned systems. This is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to the evolution of RINA's Safety and/or ISA capabilities, delivering top-tier safety advisory services to the Royal Navy.

This position offers flexibility, allowing for work from our offices in Southampton, Chippenham, or Leatherhead, as RINA embraces a smart/hybrid working model. While proximity to the office is not a strict requirement, moderate travel throughout the UK will be necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead diverse Maritime Safety Engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budget, and compliance with quality standards;
  • Manage projects independently or oversee a small team;
  • Assist in bids, proposals, analysis, and report generation;
  • Advocate for RINA's Safety capabilities to clients, providing expert advice through direct engagement, relationship building, and presentations;
  • Support the Safety management team in enhancing safety capabilities to address emerging market needs;
  • Note: This role does not focus on Health & Safety (HSE).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of four years' experience in implementing safety engineering management solutions in high-risk environments;
  • Familiarity with UK MOD (Defence) maritime/naval platforms or the civil marine sector;
  • Background from the Royal Navy as a Leading Hand, Petty Officer, or Chief PO, or relevant commercial experience in the maritime field;
  • Proven experience in conducting Hazard & Safety Risk Analysis or Independent Safety Assurance (ISA) projects, including the development of safety cases;
  • Proficient in using Safety Engineering tools such as Reliability Workbench, ASCE, BowTie, Event Tree Analysis, or Fault Tree Analysis;
  • Basic understanding of Defence Standard 00-56 and related regulations, including DSA02-DMR;
  • Ideally, knowledge of UK MOD frameworks (e.g., Aurora);
  • Familiarity with ASEMS, POSMS, and POEMS processes;
  • An engineering background is essential;
  • UK Security Clearance is preferred, or candidates must be British citizens willing to undergo vetting.
