York, York City, United Kingdom University of York Full time

Position Overview

A collaborative team of scholars from various esteemed institutions is engaged in a groundbreaking project aimed at innovating neuromorphic design methodologies and efficient hardware frameworks utilizing spiking neural networks (SNNs). This initiative aspires to create advanced computational solutions for the defense and security sectors, focusing on the autonomous and reliable identification of illicit or harmful behaviors in densely populated areas, while ensuring minimal intrusion into personal privacy over extended durations.

We are seeking exceptional researchers with expertise in Edge Computing, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Neuromorphic Engineering to contribute to the ambitious goals of this project.

Security Clearance Requirement

All candidates will be subject to security evaluations conducted by the relevant authorities prior to commencing this position. As these assessments may require several weeks, candidates invited for interviews will need to initiate the clearance process promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative neuromorphic computing frameworks, concentrating on artificial spiking neural networks aimed at effective hardware realization.
  • Work in conjunction with neuroscience, engineering, and computer science researchers to create functional models capable of learning, storing, and recognizing patterns from event-driven datasets.
  • Collaborate with fellow project researchers to build demonstrative applications.
  • Engage in research activities, publish findings, and disseminate knowledge through academic publications, seminars, conference presentations, and community outreach.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong understanding and proficiency in Artificial Neural Networks, Machine Learning, or Brain-inspired computing, including simulation and training techniques.
  • Proficient in simulation systems development, encompassing specification, design, programming (Python, C++, C, or similar), and testing.
  • Enthusiasm for working within a multidisciplinary team environment.

By submitting your application, you consent to the sharing of your information with project collaborators.
