Position: Urban Development Planner

Location: Lancaster

Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 + Package

We are seeking a skilled Urban Development Planner with a background in either a development firm, governmental agency, or consultancy to take on a pivotal role within our organization. This position is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a leading FTSE 100 housebuilder's Planning Team.

Role Overview:

The Urban Development Planner will report directly to the Land & Planning Manager and will engage with various stakeholders, including consultants, local planning authorities, and community representatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive site evaluations, including in-depth analysis of planning histories, policy interpretation, and the development of new site assessments for both immediate and long-term projects.
  • Manage and prepare diverse planning applications, from Outline and Full to Reserved Matters, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to facilitate ongoing housing developments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external design teams, as well as local authority officials, to foster strong working relationships throughout the planning process.
  • Draft Planning Statements and other essential documentation to support applications, ensuring compliance with necessary planning regulations.
  • Organize and participate in stakeholder engagement and public consultation events, representing the company with professionalism to build community trust.
  • Develop strategic planning initiatives to promote future development sites, working under the guidance of the Planning Manager.
  • Occasionally provide support to the Head of Planning, assisting the team as needed.
  • Monitor the progress of development plans and associated policy documents within relevant local authority areas.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience in development management or planning policy within either the private or public sector.
  • A degree or master's in Planning, ideally with MRTPI accreditation and a comprehensive understanding of urban planning.
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • A valid UK driving license.
