About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Band 6 Charge Nurse to join our team at Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of clinical care within our Inpatient Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice Management
    • Undertake comprehensive nursing assessments and develop care plans in consultation with service users.
    • Carry out clinical audits to evaluate and improve clinical services.
    • Administer medication in accordance with Trust and legislative guidelines.
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of mental health legislation and the NMC's 'The Code'.
  • Teaching, Education & Health Promotion
    • Provide mentoring opportunities for staff and promote positive attitudes towards mental health.
    • Develop junior staff through teaching and training activities.
  • Continuing Professional Development
    • Maintain and develop professional knowledge, skills, and expertise to ensure best practice.
    • Take responsibility for post-registration education and continuing professional development.
  • Finance and Workforce
    • Make best use of available workforce resources based on agreed staffing models.
    • Undertake appraisals for staff and identify training and development needs.
  • Record Keeping and Administration
    • Maintain and enforce standards of record keeping and associated administration.
    • Contribute to the achievement of Controls Assurance Standards relating to Records Management.
  • Evidence-Based Nursing, Practice Development & Clinical Audit
    • Undertake relevant practice development and research activity.
    • Participate in a rolling programme of audit.
  • Professional Nursing Advice
    • Contribute to providing professional nursing advice within the post-holder's area of responsibility.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications
    • RN3: Mental Health Nurse Level 1
    • Mentorship qualification
  • Experience
    • Able to demonstrate experience of effective risk assessment and management planning.
    • Experience of working in an acute setting as a Band 5 for the past 2 years.
    • Experience of undertaking supervision for junior staff.
  • Skills
    • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care.
    • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge
    • Good understanding and implementation of the Mental Health Act 1983/2007.
    • Good understanding and implementation of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
