Position Overview

We are in search of dedicated Shift Engineers to join our esteemed global FMCG organization, recognized for its beloved brands, to play a vital role in our dynamic ice cream production setting.

This role is a full-time temporary position with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role, averaging 40 hours per week. The compensation package is competitive, offering up to £50,000 per annum, pro rata, based on experience, along with a shift allowance of 26.2%.

Shift Schedule:

  • D= Day shift 12hrs (06:30-18:30)
  • N= Night shift 12hrs (18:30-06:30)
  • D12 = Day shift 12hrs (06:30-18:30)
  • D8 = Day shift 8hrs (07:30-15:30)
  • Includes 1 Saturday Day and 1 Sunday Night every 9 weeks.
  • Average weekly hours = 40 hours

ROLE OBJECTIVE - To ensure the manufacturing facility operates at peak efficiency, producing high-quality products by maintaining, repairing, and enhancing plant and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Management

  • Ensure adherence to the company's safety policies and procedures in all tasks and improvements.
  • Guarantee compliance with health and safety regulations related to maintenance activities.
  • Effectively plan and manage statutory maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct risk assessments as necessary.
  • Participate in regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.

Quality Assurance

  • Assist in identifying critical control points on equipment and ensure they are inspected according to quality management procedures.
  • Manage calibration programs effectively.

Technical Expertise

  • Possess mechanical skills and technical knowledge to provide effective engineering support, focusing on performance targets and contributing to safety, quality, sustainability, and cost efficiency.
  • Be fully operational on mechanisms and motion systems.
  • Demonstrate electrical skills by safely removing and replacing major electrical components and troubleshooting electrical circuits.
  • Establish power distribution systems and electrical control circuits.
  • Install electrical drive systems and control loops.
  • Exhibit understanding of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), including their applications and number systems.
  • Amend control and software documentation as needed.
  • Manage PLC and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Networks, including program modifications and fault finding.
  • Enhance machine reliability through engineering solutions.
  • Improve machine performance by developing maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct fault finding to quickly identify root causes of issues and eliminate recurring faults.

Project Leadership

Lead small improvement initiatives by suggesting and developing enhancements using the Kaizen process, documenting solutions, and initiating root cause analysis on persistent equipment issues.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of practical experience in electrical, mechanical, or control engineering/maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Proficient in computer literacy, including MS Office and CMMS systems.
  • Able to analyze and interpret information from various sources.
  • Experience in fault finding on electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic machinery.
  • Experience with high-speed packing machinery is advantageous.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Training in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of 18th Edition wiring regulations.
  • Qualifications in Programmable Logic Control (Siemens S5/S7, Simotion, Allan Bradley).
