As a leading charity, Coeliac UK serves over 60,000 members, offering vital information and support to individuals affected by coeliac disease or adhering to a gluten-free diet. Our organization actively campaigns for those living with coeliac disease and engages in research to understand the disease's causes.
Role Overview:
In the capacity of Food Policy Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the charity's initiatives related to food policy and information, focusing on upholding Coeliac UK's food standards and providing accurate food information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing Coeliac UK's gluten-free catering accreditation program, including the evaluation of audit reports, feedback, and corrective measures to ensure compliance with Coeliac UK guidelines.
- Collaborating with the commercial team to assist caterers in preparing for Coeliac UK's gluten-free accreditation.
- Participating in meetings with caterers and manufacturers associated with Coeliac UK.
- Managing the development of quarterly reports for the gluten-free catering accreditation program.
- Working alongside the Head of Food Policy to formulate and review food policies, contributing to intelligence gathering, horizon scanning, and consultations to represent the charity effectively.
- Critically analyzing evidence to ensure that information regarding food and the gluten-free diet remains current.
- Providing administrative support for Coeliac UK's Food Standards Committee.
- Contributing to the evidence base related to food policy, standards, legislation, and technology.
- Engaging in food research to enhance the evidence base concerning food and the gluten-free diet, informing charity policy and aligning with the charity's strategic objectives.
- Contributing articles for Coeliac UK publications and consumer/trade media as needed.
- Representing and advocating for the charity's work among stakeholders in the food sector.
- Acting as a representative for the charity at food-related events.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- A proactive individual with a structured approach to work.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Degree-level education.
- Knowledge in quality assurance, food technology, and nutrition.
- Understanding of the scientific evidence base and research methodologies.
- Numerical skills to produce, monitor, and interpret audit data, quality assurance processes, and guidance documents.
- Aptitude for critically reviewing scientific literature.
- Proficient in IT, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint.
- Experience with CMS and website content management.
