Mechanical Engineer

Morson Talent is working with a leading player in the Energy Sector to find an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their site-based team in Somerset.
This is a contract position, working 3 days a week on-site and 2 days remotely. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-national Joint Design Office team responsible for reviewing and accepting equipment scope for a major infrastructure project.
About the RoleThe Joint Design Office has been established to provide rapid engineering support to site construction teams, ensuring timely delivery and increased scope of work. The post-holder will report to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch and will be responsible for reviewing and accepting engineering queries raised by site contractors.
The role will focus on the Equipment discipline, dealing with pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and pressure equipment, and will interface with other disciplines and stakeholders, including site contractors, construction teams, quality teams, project management teams, and design teams.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to general queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests from site contractors, with support from responsible designers or site experts when needed.
- Provide oversight to ensure compliance with Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements.
- Challenge design decisions to ensure alignment with project strategy.
- Assist in coordinating support from external organizations.
- Contribute to resolving and closing open points.
- Assess technical risk and address it accordingly.
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience in equipment design, installation, and/or commissioning.
- Specific experience in one of: pumps, valves, heat exchangers, or pressure equipment.
- Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within a highly regulated industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the construction/installation industry.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements (desirable).
- Experience in understanding welding engineering.
- Ability to influence diverse stakeholders, particularly in a site environment.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and report/escalate relevant issues.
