Main Responsibilities

To oversee the management and supervision of staff and budgets allocated to the Small Works and Repairs Section, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of Council policies and procedures.

Key Duties
  1. Formulate, implement, and update the Service Plan and contribute to the Corporate Plan, particularly in relation to the maintenance of Council assets.
  2. Carry out staff development appraisals and set performance measures for members of the Section.
  3. Prepare estimates, budgets, and performance measures for the Section, including managing large budgets for repairs and improvements across the building and structures stock.
  4. Ensure the maintenance and management of car parks, street/footpath lighting, and signage.
  5. Manage the Statutory Inspections regime for Council properties, including boilers, lifts, and specialist electrical installations.
  6. Liaise with external parties for the disconnection of services, sealing up, and demolition of properties.
  7. Prepare and maintain schedules, specifications, and programmes for painting and decoration of public buildings.
  8. Provide technical advice and assistance as required, including to the Trustees in respect of the Almshouse Trust.
  9. Manage the preparation of the term maintenance contract for building maintenance, ensuring compliance with Council policies.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a detailed understanding of relevant legislation and be able to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. You will also need to be proactive in personal and professional development, updating your knowledge and skills as agreed annually through the Council's Performance Appraisal Scheme.
