Position Overview

This is a full-time role focused on the assessment and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. The successful candidate will lead group exercise sessions, oversee junior staff, and mentor students.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in physiotherapy.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable

  • Current continuing professional development (CPD) in the musculoskeletal specialty.

Clinical Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Ability to systematically assess common musculoskeletal conditions, including spinal and peripheral issues, using sound clinical reasoning.
  • Competence in identifying serious or non-MSK diagnoses and taking appropriate action.
  • Develop holistic, patient-centered management plans incorporating shared decision-making.
  • Skilled in exercise prescription for MSK conditions in both individual and group settings.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to convey complex concepts to patients.
  • Proficient in manual techniques, including orthopaedic testing and therapy.
  • Understanding of adjunct therapies such as TENS and orthotics in managing MSK conditions.

Desirable

  • Experience in triaging musculoskeletal referrals.
  • Ability to assess and treat specialized referrals, including major trauma and complex conditions.
  • Training in communication techniques such as motivational interviewing.

Experience

Essential

  • Post-registration clinical experience in core specialties at band 5 level, particularly in MSK outpatient settings.
  • Experience managing outpatient MSK conditions referred from various sources.
  • Ability to provide equitable treatment to patients from diverse backgrounds.

Desirable

  • Previous experience at band 6 level in a relevant clinical specialty.
  • Experience in an NHS or equivalent setting.
  • Ability to deputize for team leads in meetings and operational tasks.

Non-Clinical Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Ability to present information clearly and logically to staff.
  • Effective teamwork and motivation skills.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities.
  • Capability to manage stress in a busy outpatient environment.
  • Skills to handle emotional or aggressive patients appropriately.

Desirable

  • Experience in audit processes and quality improvement projects.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in delivering training to staff and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience supervising junior staff and conducting appraisals.
