Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Motor Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at GKN Aerospace. As a key member of our design office, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing electrical propulsion systems for future aircraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop high-power, high-performance electrical machines and drive systems for aircraft propulsion.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical propulsion systems with aircraft systems.
  • Perform engineering analysis and first-principle calculations to support design decisions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Liaise with suppliers and partners to ensure timely delivery of components and materials.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for technical innovation and intellectual property development.
Requirements
  • Experience in mechanical design of rotating equipment, preferably electric motors for traction applications.
  • Proficiency in CAD software packages, including CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks, and Siemens NX.
  • Understanding of engineering principles for mechanical design and experience generating first-principle calculations.
  • Experience in the application of GD&T process according to BS8888, ASME 14.5Y, or similar.
  • Experience in the use of FEA software packages to analyze simple mechanical structures.
  • Experience in supporting prototype manufacturing and assembly teams and producing support documentation like assembly instructions.
