This position is for a full-time Consultant in Neuro Rehabilitation, aimed at enhancing our Neurology and Neurorehabilitation services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Uphold the highest clinical standards in neurological rehabilitation services at a consultant level.
- Provide clinical leadership and oversee inpatient care.
- Conduct regular ward rounds and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Supervise outpatient clinics on a weekly basis.
- Commit to the Acute Stroke Service for rehabilitation input.
- Assess referrals prior to rehabilitation admissions.
- Offer guidance to General Practitioners and other healthcare professionals on rehabilitation matters.
- Engage with patients, caregivers, and families as needed.
About Our Organization
Our unit is equipped with 10-12 beds dedicated to patients facing complex neurological challenges requiring intensive multidisciplinary support. Our team comprises highly skilled professionals from various disciplines.
The Physiotherapy Department is conveniently located with ample therapy space and modern equipment. Our Occupational Therapy suites are designed for assessing and practicing independent living skills. The Speech and Language Therapy Department features a specialized therapist with access to advanced diagnostic tools. Additionally, we have a part-time Clinical Psychologist and a full-time Clinical Psychology assistant, along with a Dietician to address nutritional needs. The nearby Wheelchair Service offers assessments and wheelchair provisions as necessary, while our Orthotics Department provides consultations and assessments.
We cater to a diverse range of chronic and acute neurological disorders, including Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Brain Injuries, Spinal Cord Injuries, Peripheral Neuropathies, Motor Neurone Disease, Brain Tumors, and rare neurological conditions.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will share clinical and managerial leadership within the Neurology and Neurorehabilitation service alongside existing consultants. An office space with administrative support will be provided.
The role involves providing consultant coverage for 10 complex Neurorehabilitation patients admitted to the Neuro-rehabilitation Unit. Patients are admitted with various brain injuries, including strokes and traumatic brain injuries. Consultant coverage for community services is also part of the role, involving community ward rounds and multidisciplinary support for neurorehabilitation patients.
Outpatient clinic commitments will be required at multiple locations. Comprehensive therapy services, including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Neuropsychology, will be provided in accordance with established service guidelines.
This is an exciting time to join our organization as we are transforming our Neurorehabilitation services to create an integrated acute and community pathway. The unit is currently operating at a temporary location, with plans for a permanent base in the near future. The post-holder will play an active role in developing and enhancing services in alignment with our organizational vision.
The appointee will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver specialized care for patients with severe brain injuries, adhering to national best practice guidelines. Data quality for the UKROC database will be a key responsibility, and the appointee may also conduct home visits for spasticity management and neurological assessments.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Full registration with the GMC.
- Membership of the Royal College of Medicine of the United Kingdom or equivalent.
- Comprehensive training in Rehabilitation.
- Completion of four years of training at SpR level in Rehabilitation Medicine or current consultant experience in this specialty.
- Demonstrated interest and experience in Neurological Rehabilitation.
- General medical experience to manage acute conditions.
- Ability to make independent patient care decisions.
- Previous involvement in clinical governance and adherence to GMC Good Medical Practice.

- Experience in stroke medicine and complex spasticity management.
