Job Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with the Digital Planning Programme at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), which is dedicated to modernizing and enhancing the planning framework in England. The Programme is structured into four specialized teams: Planning Software, PropTech, Planning Data, and Local Plans.

The PropTech team at MHCLG is focused on leveraging property technology as a catalyst for reform and advancement within the planning and housing sectors. Through various initiatives, including the PropTech Innovation Fund launched in 2021, the team has facilitated multiple funding rounds aimed at exploring new opportunities within the sector. This has involved collaboration with over 60 Local Planning Authorities and 100 pilot projects to promote the adoption of digital solutions that enhance urban development, democratize decision-making, and streamline processes.

As a PropTech Strategy Consultant, you will play a crucial role in enhancing MHCLG's capacity to engage with the PropTech sector. Your responsibilities will include consolidating the narrative surrounding PropTech's potential and utilizing market insights to create feedback mechanisms that inform policy formulation and service delivery. You will also explore the Government's role in fostering collaboration and innovation within the PropTech market, aiming to position the UK as a leader in international innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with external stakeholders in the PropTech sector, utilizing insights to ensure that the PropTech team's initiatives align with market opportunities and challenges.
  • Integrate existing projects and aspirations within the PropTech sector, identifying connections between established efforts and emerging priorities to enhance collaboration.
  • Contribute to the development of the State of the PropTech Market report, crafting compelling narratives based on supply and demand insights, and collaborating with product teams for impactful publication strategies.
  • Support the governance and delivery of the PropTech Steering Board, ensuring it effectively shapes the Government's role in promoting market growth and identifies opportunities for the PropTech sector to enhance housing and planning outcomes.
  • Enhance the PropTech team's capability for horizon scanning by collecting, analyzing, and reporting on emerging technologies, trends, and policies within the sector.
  • Collaborate with policy teams within the Digital Planning Programme to develop PropTech-related evidence and messaging for ministerial briefings and submissions.
  • Foster collaborative relationships across MHCLG, particularly in Planning, Housing, and Regeneration, to align policy development and priorities.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment that encourages collaboration, learning, and mutual support.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Strategic experience with strong judgment and political acumen, capable of drawing comprehensive conclusions from diverse information sources.
