Specialist Lower Gastrointestinal Surgical Dietitian Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Dietitian Specialist to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing a specialist dietetic service to patients undergoing Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) surgery.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of LGI patients receiving oral, enteral, and parenteral nutritional support.
  • Undertake nutrition ward rounds, reviewing complex patients on parenteral nutrition.
  • Work closely with the surgical multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care and monitoring of patients.
  • Attend and contribute to ward rounds for the surgical and Proactive Care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) teams.
  • Support the development of the LGI surgery Enhanced Recovery Programme (ERP), including new guidelines.
  • Provide clinical cover for LGI dietetic clinics and home parenteral nutrition clinics.
  • Attend and contribute to intestinal failure multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Provide expert advice on nutritional support for LGI patients.
  • Initiate and participate in regular research and audit.
Requirements
  • Experience in nutrition support, surgery, and oncology.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Broad post-registration experience within Clinical Dietetics.
  • Conducting audit and research.
  • Experience training students.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Presentation skills, including talking to large groups.
  • Time management and prioritisation.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of the nutritional implications of GI surgery.
  • Sound knowledge of current issues in dietetics.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
