Position OverviewShaping a sustainable future

The Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) initiative is a significant 5-year endeavor aimed at establishing a 525kV, 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable. This project will represent the longest HVDC cable in the UK and the largest single transmission project in the country, capable of supplying power to 2 million homes. BAM Nuttall is excited to present an opportunity for a Lead Cost Consultant to join our commercial team on this transformative project.

Your Responsibilities

As a Lead Cost Consultant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Upholding high standards of safety and environmental practices in line with company policies.
  • Facilitating effective communication with project managers, senior quantity surveyors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Overseeing, guiding, and mentoring members of the commercial team to support their professional growth.
  • Contributing expertise and professionalism in meetings with client representatives.
  • Providing commercial insights during interactions with supply chain partners, including tender inquiries and contract evaluations.
  • Managing subcontractor relationships, including payment processing and final account negotiations.
  • Monitoring site resource costs and ensuring timely and accurate cost performance reporting.
  • Preparing monthly cost and value reports, as well as quarterly updates for senior management.
  • Engaging in discussions regarding project performance and offering commercial input for project strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with risk management protocols and advising the project team accordingly.
  • Promoting adherence to company procedures and suggesting enhancements to senior management.
  • Managing change processes, ensuring compliance with contractual timelines and requirements.
  • Ensuring timely submission of monthly payment applications in accordance with contract conditions.
  • Providing commercial guidance to site teams and management on contractual matters.
  • Participating in all site commercial meetings and contributing valuable insights.
  • Effectively managing your time and the workloads of the commercial team.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of commercial training for site personnel.
Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Lead Cost Consultant or a Quantity Surveyor ready to advance in their career, showcasing strong commercial skills.
  • Familiarity with NEC forms of contract.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members.
  • Capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with project teams, clients, and designers.
  • Confidence and capability to work effectively within a team environment, positively influencing outcomes.
  • Relevant qualifications (Degree, HNC/D).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with Early Contractor Involvement.
  • Familiarity with target cost contracts.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (CICES/RICS).
