Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Quarry Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a busy quarry.

As the Quarry Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a proficient team to ensure operational continuity and mitigate risks.
  • Driving change and fostering continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining effective stock management and generating operational reports.
  • Overseeing all budgetary aspects related to quarry operations.
  • Implementing a proactive maintenance program for quarry machinery and equipment.
  • Establishing and upholding Standard Operating Procedures and conducting risk assessments.
  • Ensuring the safe operation of the plant and managing the scheduled preventative maintenance of all site equipment, both fixed and mobile, while prioritizing safety for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Identifying and addressing any unsafe or hazardous work practices.
  • Conducting safety briefings and toolbox talks for your operational team.
  • Managing both mandatory and developmental training for your staff.
  • Compiling and reporting on monthly performance KPIs to enhance operational efficiency.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Quarry Manager position will have extensive experience in Quarrying Operations and a solid understanding of Quarry Regulations.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work protocols.
  • Familiarity with production processes, as well as Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
  • SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6 certification.
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (SAP knowledge is a plus).
  • The ability to multitask and manage change effectively.
  • A good understanding of various methods for extracting and processing raw materials.
  • Knowledge of techniques for loading and transporting extracted minerals.
  • Experience in handling raw materials, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification, and beneficiation techniques.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification is advantageous.
  • A Diploma in Quarry Technology or FdSc in Extractives Technology is a plus.
