Quarry Manager Job Description

Tarmac Trading Limited is seeking an experienced Quarry Manager to lead our operations team at our Tarmac Leapers Wood Quarry in Lancashire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop a skilled team to ensure safe and efficient quarry operations.
  • Lead change and improvement initiatives, maintain stock management processes, and produce operational reports.
  • Oversee budgetary control for all quarrying operations, including maintenance and equipment management.
  • Proactively manage maintenance schemes for quarry plant and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Maintain and implement Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Manage and oversee the safe operation of the plant and equipment, with responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues and business partners.
  • Investigate and report any unsafe or hazardous working practices, and issue safety briefings and toolbox talks to the operational team.
  • Manage training and development of staff, including mandatory and developmental training.
  • Collate and report monthly performance KPIs, driving operational performance and improvement.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in quarrying operations, with a good understanding of Quarry Regulations 1999.
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems.
  • Working knowledge of production processes, Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with SAP advantageous.
  • Ability to multitask and confidently manage change.
  • Good understanding of different methods of winning and extracting raw material, and techniques employed to load and transport extracted minerals.
  • Working knowledge of handling raw materials, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification, and beneficiation techniques.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH advantageous, with Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology also advantageous.
