About this Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our hospitality team as Assistant Hospitality Services Manager, overseeing the hospitality operation within Oddfellows Hall on the main University campus.

Oddfellows Hall is a state-of-the-art conference facility that forms part of the University's exciting new Engineering campus, formally opened in 2022. The facility is home to one of the University's all-year-round conference and event facilities, as well as a 120-seater restaurant, The Beehive.

The Beehive Restaurant

Opened in January 2023, The Beehive Restaurant provides a more formal dining offer for the University and visitors. Offering a range of options for breakfast and lunch, the restaurant offers a unique location on campus to entertain and dine. The facility is also available for private hire events in the evenings, being able to host receptions, buffets, and evening dinners.

Oddfellows Hall

Operated by the University's conference team, Oddfellows Hall is an all-year-round conference facility. With 13 meeting rooms seating up to 50 delegates, the hall is popular for a variety of meetings, away days, and events, with the assistant manager planning and delivering conference and event hospitality in support of these bookings.

The Position

The successful post holder will be responsible for running The Beehive Restaurant and conference hospitality on a day-to-day basis, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues across Conferencing and Hospitality to maximise the success of the business.

This role is ideal for an individual who can realise the potential of the business, and relish the opportunity to work with colleagues to help grow and develop this still relatively new business area to make it a well-known dining location on campus.

Successful candidates should ideally have experience of running/managing restaurants in similar venues and/or experience in managing a variety of conferencing and events.

Applicants should have a Hospitality and/or business-related subject qualification. They should have hospitality/event/wedding knowledge, service, and skills gained in a similarly diverse environment, together with demonstrable knowledge and skills of delivering customer service excellence. Sound written and verbal communication, together with a good understanding of IT and industry-relevant software are key to this role, together with a thorough understanding of event administration and financial responsibilities.

A natural positive attitude towards a busy/pressurised environment and the ability to work flexibly across the week to the requirements of the business is essential to this role.

This is a full-time role, working 40 hours a week across 5 days out of 7, including evenings and weekends to suit the needs of the events that are taking place. The catering operation at Oddfellows can operate on a 7-day a week basis.

University Catering

The catering at The Beehive Restaurant and Oddfellows Hall is operated by the University's catering team, which encompasses a broad and diverse range of business areas, including retail outlets, catered halls, student bars, conferencing, events, and hospitality.

With such a varied range of business across the week, the department is always a buzz of activity, no two days are ever the same. The business operates 7-days a week, accommodating events and hospitality both daytime and evenings across the week, including weekends.
