Position Overview:

A prominent agricultural enterprise with a broad spectrum of interests in mixed farming, livestock, and real estate is in search of a seasoned and dynamic individual to assume the role of Managing Director. This position is crucial for steering the organization towards future growth and success across its diverse portfolio.

This well-established, financially robust family-owned business is located in the East of England. With a rich heritage and strong market presence, the company is forward-thinking and benefits from the cohesive support of its board of directors and family stakeholders, alongside three senior managers overseeing a dedicated team of 40 employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Business Leadership

Enhance and manage the overall performance of the organization within the established framework.

Act as the primary representative of the business in various external engagements.

Strategic Vision and Leadership

Formulate, present, and execute a detailed business strategy aimed at sustainable growth.

Guide the Management Team in meeting performance targets and achieving successful outcomes.

Cultural Advancement

Promote a high-performance culture that emphasizes growth and opportunity.

Uphold the core values that define the family business.

Stakeholder Engagement

Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and consultants.

Marketing Oversight

Supervise crop futures and grain marketing while balancing feed inputs and forward contracts.

Direct all marketing initiatives and ensure the successful execution of marketing strategies.

Governance and Compliance

Ensure adherence to internal governance, compliance, and risk management protocols.

Human Resource Management

Oversee recruitment, development, and training processes with the assistance of external consultants.

Track and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in relation to budgets and strategic plans.

Financial Management

Oversee the financial and contractual obligations of the organization.

Reporting Duties

Provide regular updates to the Board regarding business performance and strategic initiatives.

Present reports to shareholders during the Annual General Meeting.

Administrative Oversight

Supervise the Company Secretary to ensure effective administrative support.

Resource Allocation

Direct and manage company resources to optimize cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.

External Advocacy

Promote the organization and its interests in external forums.

Represent the company in negotiations with key partners and stakeholders.

Policy Formulation

Develop and implement policies to ensure compliance with health, safety, and other regulatory requirements.

Candidate Profile - Qualifications and Experience:

Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a diversified agribusiness.

In-depth knowledge of the UK agricultural landscape.

Relevant expertise in business management, particularly in P&L, balance sheet management, and strategic development.

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Agricultural or Business Management or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
