Position Overview

Questech Recruitment Ltd is a reputable and thriving organization seeking a Mobile Service Technician specializing in the repair and maintenance of Forklift Trucks and Material Handling Equipment. This role involves traveling to various client locations across the UK to perform essential repairs and servicing on equipment that has been leased by our customers.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Level 4 Technician qualification or equivalent apprenticeship in the Forklift, HGV, or Automotive sectors. We also welcome applications from seasoned Technicians and Engineers.

This position is well-suited for individuals with prior experience as a Mobile Service Technician, Forklift Truck Technician, FLT Engineer, or similar roles involving the servicing and repair of Forklift Trucks and other Material Handling Equipment. Candidates with backgrounds as HGV Technicians, HGV Engineers, or Mechanical Fitters are also encouraged to apply.

Your primary responsibility will be to deliver a professional, efficient, and responsive service to our clients by maintaining and repairing materials handling equipment to the highest standards. It is essential to ensure that both the customer and the company receive value for money.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (40 hours per week).

Compensation: Salary up to £35,000 (dependent on experience) plus overtime, company vehicle, and bonus opportunities. The total average salary can reach approximately £45,000 per annum, along with an attractive pension scheme.

Field service hours will be compensated from the moment you leave home until your return (door-to-door). Additionally, there is a 24-hour on-call rota, typically every 7-8 weeks, which is voluntary and financially rewarded.

Overtime: Available based on workload, compensated at time and a half for normal hours. Saturday morning work is also available at the same rate (not compulsory).

Incentives: Opting for a half-hour lunch instead of a full hour will count as 30 minutes of overtime at time and a half.

Transport and Location: You will operate from home, with occasional travel to a local depot for supplies. A fully equipped service van will be provided. While personal tools are required, the company will supply jacks, slings, power tools, and any necessary specialized equipment. The service van can be used for personal purposes in accordance with government guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on customer-owned and fleet vehicles at client sites.
  • Perform fault diagnosis to identify reported issues.
  • Strive for first-time fixes on equipment repairs whenever possible.
  • Document all damages and faults accurately and communicate them to customers.
  • Obtain purchase order numbers as per company procedures.
  • Ensure that service recommendations are fair and provide value for money.
  • Execute cost-effective repairs on rental equipment or all-inclusive contracts to maximize profitability.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including service sheets, breakdown reports, and timesheets, in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate closely with the sales team to identify potential leads.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the service van and ensure stock is appropriate for the customer base.
  • Uphold the company’s image, efficiency, and first-time fix rate.
  • Order necessary replacement parts and stock promptly.
  • Ensure all company-issued tools and safety equipment are in satisfactory condition and report deficiencies immediately.
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship while minimizing risks of injury to oneself or others.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in repairing and maintaining Forklift Trucks, FLTs, Plant Vehicles, Material Handling Vehicles, HGVs, or similar vehicles.
  • Possession of a Level 4 Technician qualification or equivalent apprenticeship in the Forklift, HGV, or Automotive sectors is preferred. Experienced Technicians and Engineers will also be considered.

On-site training will be provided as necessary.
