Job Description

Milk Education is seeking a compassionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant to work in fantastic SEND schools on a long-term supply basis in County Durham.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), both in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
  • Utilize structured teaching methods, visual aids, and other autism-specific strategies to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages independence, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and parents.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a consistent and effective approach to each student's development.
  • Support students in developing social skills, managing sensory sensitivities, and navigating daily school routines.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required, ensuring the dignity and well-being of each student.
  • Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with best practices in autism education.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and support activities.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a school or similar setting.
  • A strong understanding of autism-specific teaching strategies and approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the development and well-being of students with autism.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to the changing needs of students and the school.
