About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Civil Project Engineer to join our team at CertainTeed / Saint-Gobain. As a key member of our Project Management Office (PMO), you will be responsible for leading capital projects for our roofing manufacturing plants, ensuring safe and efficient implementation of equipment and installation packages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned capital packages, including design, capital requests, procurement, budget, schedule, installation, and commissioning.
  • Develop initial designs, specifications, and budget estimates for capital projects.
  • Support Project Managers on assigned projects, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery.
  • Manage civil designers, construction management, and contractors on site.
  • Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Direct activities to ensure construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Provide mentorship and training to Project Engineers on the design phase of projects.
  • Ensure efficient transfer of projects to the Operations team, including documentation, drawings, training support, and spare parts packages.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, communicating project status to meet company goals.
  • Follow the Project Execution Manual Check Lists (Stage gate process), applying standard tools at each step of the project.
  • Maintain fluid communication and collaboration with other members of the Roofing TIP: Project Management Office PMO, OPEX team, Loss Prevention Team, and other corporate teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or similar Engineering field; Master's Degree or PE preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in an industrial construction environment, with capital project engineering roles preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of all types of engineering drawings.
  • Extensive experience in construction planning and execution at site, including surveying, estimation, and bid management.
  • Site experience (Operations and/or multiple project start-ups) on both contractor and client sides preferred.
  • Ability to check calculations made by other engineers or engineering contractors to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Able to interpret structural calculations/reports, geotechnical reports, and propose/check foundation solutions.
  • Able to use and/or interpret Revit, Navisworks, Tekla, etc.
  • Knowledge of structural design and analysis in 3D.
