About the Role

We are seeking highly skilled musicians to join our team at the Royal Air Force. As a musician in the RAF, you will have the opportunity to perform at top concert venues, national events, and royal engagements, while also providing music support for the RAF, Ministry of Defence, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Responsibilities
  • Perform at prestigious concert venues, national events, and royal engagements
  • Play a varied repertoire from symphonic wind band to big band, small ensemble, and chamber music
  • Provide music support for the RAF, Ministry of Defence, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
  • Meet the minimum education requirements, including a minimum Grade 8 standard as defined by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or equivalent
  • Commit to a minimum of 27 days per year for 12 years minimum
Requirements
  • Be aged 17.5–47 years old (Must attest before 48th birthday)
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, holder of dual UK/other nationality, or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth (with 'right to work' immigration status)
  • Pass a fitness test
Training and Development

As a musician in the RAF, you will receive basic and specialist training in your field, including the opportunity to gain a diploma in performance or music direction. You will also have the chance to develop other skills through the Training and Development Section at your RAF unit, including academic study and adventurous sports training.

Career Progression

You will begin your career in a Regular Band as an Air Specialist (Class 1) and have the opportunity to progress to the rank of Warrant Officer after gaining the relevant qualifications through the CPD scheme. Personnel deemed suitable and qualified may elect to undertake selection for commission as a Director of Music.
