The Role: R&D Engineer - Electroplating

We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineer with a strong background in electroplating to join our team at our Staverton site. This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) requiring on-site presence.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Research & Development:
    • Develop innovative technical solutions and projects for industrial customers, providing commercial and technical advantages.
    • Participate in defining and streamlining industrial product ranges.
    • Analyze, implement, and finalize the processes for specific tools and solutions tailored to customer needs.
    • Provide technical sales support, collaborating with customers on complex projects to understand their applications and expectations, ultimately developing optimal solutions.
  • Process Development & Growth:
    • Coordinate electroplating process controls by implementing and improving procedures, checks, audits, and approving new run cards for customer requests in collaboration with plating and design teams.
    • Support laboratory testing processes alongside the production team.
    • Implement product and process changes to meet Customer Specific Requirements and Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
    • Conduct Root-Cause Analysis using process and test data to implement sustainable corrective actions.
    • Demonstrate understanding of risk management principles and the process-based approach to quality, driving continuous improvements.
    • Apply lean & six sigma principles with the ability to manage projects within a World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program.

Your Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Chemistry, ideally Electrochemistry (Nickel deposit) / Electroplating.
  • Proven experience in process and/or performance improvement within a manufacturing environment, preferably in precision engineering.
  • Practitioner in World Class Manufacturing techniques (e.g., 6 sigma).
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis and other problem-solving techniques.
  • Experience managing project teams, including external contractors/suppliers.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of basic cost structures and margins.
  • Effective influencing and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
