About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled R&D Engineer to join our team at Saint-Gobain Abrasives. As an R&D Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our UK strategy by developing the Staverton plant performance and process capability in electroplating area, laboratory, and site function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and provide technical options and innovation projects to support and give commercial and/or technical advantages to our industrial customers.
  • Participate in the definition and rationalization of industrial ranges.
  • Analyse, deploy, and finalize the process of specific tools and solutions required by customers.
  • Provide technical sales assistance for complex projects, discussing customer applications and expectations to develop/provide optimal solutions.
  • Coordinate electroplating process controls by implementing and improving procedures, checks, audits, and approving new run cards from customer requests in collaboration with plating and design teams.
  • Support controls of laboratory tests with the production team.
  • Implement suitable product and process changes to satisfy Customer Specific Requirements and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
  • Perform Root-Cause Analysis with process and test data to implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Understand risk management and the process-based approach to quality and drive continuous improvements.
  • Apply principles of lean & six sigma to manage projects within a World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge in Chemistry and ideally Electrochemistry (Nickel deposit) / Electroplating.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of process and/or performance improvement within a manufacturing environment, ideally precision engineering field.
  • Practitioner in World Class Manufacturing techniques (e.g., 6 sigma).
  • Familiar with root cause analysis and other problem-solving techniques.
  • Experience of managing others in project teams, including external contractors/suppliers.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of basic cost structures and margins.
  • Effective influencing and communication skills to understand and explain technical concepts to different levels.
