Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Midwife to become a vital member of our Practice Development Team (PDT) at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the obstetric lead for fetal wellbeing, taking charge of the creation and execution of educational programs, competency evaluations, and fostering a culture of continuous risk assessment and support regarding fetal wellbeing in the contexts of pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

The ideal candidate will champion and advance excellence in midwifery practices, enhancing patient care by effectively guiding and nurturing the education, training, and professional development of staff within the service. We are looking for a midwife who exemplifies positive leadership and management skills to facilitate staff and service growth.

Additionally, the post-holder will occasionally assist the maternity practice development team in delivering various training sessions for a diverse range of multidisciplinary team members, including healthcare assistants, nursery nurses, nurses, midwives from various departments, operating department practitioners, theatre personnel, obstetricians, and anesthetists.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a highly driven and experienced Midwife, providing leadership, expert guidance, and ongoing support to Midwives within the Maternity Services.

They will offer specialized knowledge to the service and aid in the implementation of national policies and guidelines related to fetal monitoring, including the relevant elements of the Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle version 3, with the aim of achieving optimal birth outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Registered Midwife
  • Practice Assessor
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Comprehensive post-registration midwifery experience

Desirable:

  • Professional Midwifery Advocate
  • Diploma or Degree in relevant field

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of midwifery and NHS issues
  • Proficient in suturing, IV cannulation, epidurals, and IV drug administration
  • Understanding of Saving Babies' Lives in relation to fetal monitoring
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Able to work flexible shifts and under special circumstances
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for liaising with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team, as well as producing clear reports and documentation.
  • Conflict resolution skills in a non-confrontational manner

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of evidence-informed and research-based practices
