Medicines Management Specialist Technician

Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician. This role is a permanent part-time position that does not require weekend or bank holiday work.

This position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, requiring the successful candidate to operate both independently and collaboratively within the pharmacy team on designated wards. The technician will have specific clinical duties that will enhance the healthcare team and assist the pharmacist on the ward. Additionally, the role includes supporting a locality-based clozapine clinic service in collaboration with community mental health teams.

While prior experience in mental health is advantageous, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided by seasoned Mental Health professionals. With an established clozapine clinic already functioning under the guidance of our current pharmacy technicians, this position presents an excellent opportunity for career advancement into extended technician roles.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver a medicines management pharmacy service to assigned inpatient areas.
  • Collaborate with ward pharmacists to identify new patients and complete the medicines reconciliation process using SystmOne, including assessment of patients' own medications and communication with patients/carers or liaising with external organizations as necessary.
  • Engage with ward pharmacists and staff regarding any pertinent medicines management issues to ensure adherence to prescribed medications, addressing any discrepancies as they arise.
  • Facilitate a locality-based clozapine clinic service in partnership with community mental health teams to enable same-day medication supply.
  • Coordinate with provider service pharmacy staff to manage the supply of clozapine to both inpatients and outpatients across the region.
