Position Overview

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician specializing in Medicines Management. This role is a permanent part-time position that does not require weekend or bank holiday work.

This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities, requiring the successful candidate to operate both independently and collaboratively within the pharmacy team across designated wards. The technician will have specific clinical duties that contribute to the healthcare team and assist the pharmacist in ward activities. Additionally, the role includes supporting a locality-based clozapine clinic service in collaboration with community mental health teams.

Key Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician in Medicines Management, your duties will encompass working with both mental health and physical health inpatient teams to facilitate:

  • Medicines reconciliation and management of medication supply for inpatients and community patients, including stock management, non-stock items, discharge processes, leave arrangements, and self-medication.
  • Participation in audits and support for the electronic prescribing system.
  • Collaboration with ward pharmacists to identify new patients and complete the medicines reconciliation process using SystmOne, including assessing patients' own medications and communicating with patients and caregivers.
  • Liaison with ward pharmacists and staff regarding medicines management issues to ensure compliance with prescribed medications, addressing any discrepancies as necessary.
  • Provision of a locality-based clozapine clinic service in partnership with community mental health teams to enable same-day medication supply.
  • Coordination with provider service pharmacy staff to manage the supply of clozapine for both inpatients and outpatients.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Current registration and membership with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or an equivalent qualification.
  • Post-qualification experience as a pharmacy technician within the NHS.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with SystmOne or electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems.
  • Experience in ward-based medicines management.
  • Experience in supplying clozapine.
