Principal Lawyer - Commercial and Projects

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Lawyer - Commercial and Projects to lead our team and provide expert legal advice on commercial and projects matters. The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial law and experience in managing a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on commercial and projects matters to the Council and its officers.
  • Lead and manage a team of lawyers to deliver high-quality legal services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the legal services team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the Mayor, Cabinet, and Council members.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in commercial and projects law and ensure that the team is aware of any new developments.
Requirements
  • A current practising certificate (either as a Barrister, Solicitor or Legal Executive).
  • A can-do attitude with the confidence to lead and develop a team.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Strong experience in at least one of the below areas of law: Regeneration, Property, Procurement and Contracts, Planning, Environmental Law and public realm, Commercial Law.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and solve them accordingly.
  • Must be dependable and self-reliant.
  • Experience working in a local government setting.
