About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team at Ocado Group. As a Controls Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) by investigating and resolving PLC code-related issues within our live operational systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and troubleshoot hardware faults, implementing temporary modifications to PLC code to maintain system functionality.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Team and PLC Support Team to diagnose, create, and deploy code fixes.
  • Investigate and resolve live production control system issues, utilizing diagnostic tools such as Profi bus/Can Bus networks and Bar Code Readers.
  • Perform planned maintenance activities across the site, ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Analyse data to improve MHE performance and implement solutions.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Experience as an Engineer within Automated MHE systems, with a formal qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).
  • A good understanding of PLC control system architecture, field control devices, AC/DC motor controls, and Industrial Bus Networks (e.g., Profi bus, ASi).
  • Proficiency in online code monitoring, modification, and development with Siemens S7 300/400 PLCs and TIA.
  • Experience with SCADA and Siemens HMI systems.
  • Experience in a warehouse, distribution, production, or FMCG environment.
  • Understanding of Control System Communication Protocols, such as WCS and WMS systems.
