As a Senior Electrical / Systems Engineer within our Nuclear & Power Division, you will provide cutting-edge consultancy services to assist our clients in navigating safety evaluations, engineering validations, and operational support.

In our Electrical and Systems Engineering teams, you will become part of a growing group dedicated to supporting power generation, nuclear new builds, and decommissioning projects. Your role will involve tackling a diverse range of intriguing challenges for our clients during a pivotal growth phase. As you advance, you will have the opportunity to mentor and develop engineering teams to further enhance our capabilities.

We recognize that individuals have unique priorities, which is why we are committed to supporting you. Flexible and remote working arrangements are integral to our culture. We encourage discussions about what works best for you, whether that means reduced hours or additional leave during school holidays. If you are returning from a career break, we are here to assist you in reintegrating into the workforce.

Your Responsibilities:

This role involves offering expert advice throughout the design, operation, and decommissioning phases of nuclear and power generation facilities. Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing specialized consultancy on high voltage equipment for power stations.
  • Delivering operational and maintenance support, including troubleshooting, condition assessments, failure investigations, performance optimization, compliance with regulations, and process safety for nuclear, thermal, and renewable power generation sites.
  • Specifying equipment and systems to meet operational objectives.
  • Drafting technical guidance documents and engineering standards for asset management.
  • Conducting plant assessments and life-extension studies to aid clients in investment decisions.
  • Reviewing plant systems and operations to identify issues and formulate improvement plans.
  • Performing assessments in the capacity of both owner's and bank's engineer.
  • Conducting technical due diligence evaluations of assets for potential acquisitions.
  • Providing design, manufacturing, and repair guidance on high voltage electrical machines for power generation and large-scale industrial applications.
  • Creating and delivering technical training programs.
Additionally, you will assist in preparing bids and proposals and contribute to safety initiatives while fostering strong relationships with operators, designers, and clients.

What You Bring:

In addition to possessing exceptional communication, presentation, and problem-solving abilities, you will demonstrate the following qualifications:
  • An honors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • A technical practitioner with sound engineering judgment and fundamental engineering skills.
  • A track record of supporting technically demanding projects.
  • Strong numeracy and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce and review high-quality technical reports.
  • A motivated approach to meeting delivery and cost targets without compromising quality.
  • An awareness of personal technical limitations and a willingness to seek assistance from others.
  • A flexible mindset for site work on new and existing power plants, applying skills in diverse areas.
  • Experience managing small site teams and working independently or collaboratively.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to positively influence key decision-makers in client organizations (desirable).
  • Membership in IET and Chartered Engineer status (desirable).
Preferred Experience:

You will ideally have experience in some (but not necessarily all) of the following areas:
  • A comprehensive understanding of high voltage electrical machines and systems.
  • Expertise in condition monitoring techniques for power stations.
  • A thorough knowledge of failure mechanisms and the ability to contribute to investigations.
  • A solid understanding of power generation technologies, particularly high voltage electrical rotating and static equipment.
  • Knowledge of site safety systems, risk assessments, and method statements, especially concerning high voltage electrical work.
  • Operational plant experience to facilitate troubleshooting based on real-world issues from both operator and consultancy perspectives.
  • Experience in designing and testing electrical protection systems for power generation facilities.
