About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Network Design Specialist to join our team at BT Group. As a key member of our network design team, you will be responsible for designing, validating, and testing innovative network solutions that meet business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out feasibility and rapid impact assessments and contribute to business cases.
  • Determine the design scope of the overall network platform and/or customer solution, including high and low-level designs.
  • Design, validate, and test (DVT) architecturally aligned network solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Ensure security capabilities are built in from the outset.
  • Provide technical guidance to Platforms, OSS teams, Test, Delivery, and Operations to ensure smooth delivery of changes to Live.
  • Act as a point of contact for technical expertise to project senior stakeholders, both internal and customers.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with others, and be an advanced user of design tools.
  • Encourage network designers to identify opportunities to follow design best practice.
  • Propose technical strategy for network platforms in conjunction with platform managers.
  • Engage with suppliers to ensure technical capabilities meet BT needs.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of network design principles and practice.
  • Knowledge of Optical, Ethernet, and Mobile Backhaul Technologies, IP, and VPN.
  • In-Life problem resolution and performance.
  • Be inquisitive and challenging.
  • Practicing/emerging DevOps Engineer who understands software and network combinations to a practitioner level.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in engineering, member of a relevant professional institution (e.g., IET).

About You

We are looking for an accomplished and experienced network designer with a successful track record of leading complex design deliveries, including initial feasibilities and proof of concepts. You should have delivered on time and to budget and have led teams through significant change, developing an innovative, challenging, and supportive team culture.
