Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, United Kingdom National Grid Full time

About the Position

The electricity sector in Great Britain is currently experiencing a significant and essential transformation. In collaboration with industry stakeholders, we are working towards establishing a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy system that will benefit future generations.

The Resource Management Portfolio Lead will be an integral part of the Portfolio Office, a newly established function aimed at effectively managing a complex array of projects essential for achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The Portfolio Office is in the design and pilot phase, with plans for full operational status in the near future.

Reporting directly to the Head of Portfolio, the Resource Management Portfolio Lead will be pivotal in overseeing and enhancing the growing portfolio of initiatives critical for reaching net zero goals. You will provide resourcing support across various teams to facilitate the successful delivery of projects and programs. Your expertise in recruitment, selection, and contract management will be vital in developing effective resourcing strategies tailored to each project.

This role includes direct oversight of Resourcing Leads and Analysts, along with indirect management of the Flexible Resource Pool and third-party service providers through established consultancy agreements. The Resource Management Portfolio Lead will be responsible for formulating strategies to optimize resourcing services in relation to the Flexible Resource Pool and consultancy agreements.

About Us

The National Grid plays a crucial role in addressing climate change by transitioning Great Britain's electricity system towards net zero. We currently operate the fastest decarbonizing electricity system globally, with aspirations for zero carbon operations in the near future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Resourcing Manager to develop a long-term strategy for the Portfolio Office's resourcing services.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans for the development of the Flexible Resource Pool and consultancy services.
  • Work closely with consultancy partners to ensure service offerings align with organizational needs and maximize value for internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the performance of Lead and Analyst roles to ensure efficient operation of the Flexible Resource Pool.
  • Ensure customer requirements are thoroughly understood and met while managing costs associated with the Flexible Resource Pool.
  • Adhere to procurement and legal policies in the delivery of consultancy partnerships.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the frameworks and processes being established by the Portfolio Office, identifying key areas for resourcing services involvement.
  • Design and enhance portfolio management processes, driving efficiency through best practices and innovative approaches.
  • Support the Head of Portfolio Management in establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor resourcing service performance.
  • Mentor and manage a small team of Analysts, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.

About You

We seek to recruit experts in their respective fields. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A comprehensive understanding of project and program delivery capabilities, including Project Management and Change Management.
  • Experience in recruitment and selection processes.
  • Proven leadership experience, particularly during periods of change.
  • Strong contract management skills and experience in optimizing third-party service delivery.
  • The ability to build credibility with leadership teams possessing deep technical knowledge.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, with experience engaging multiple stakeholders.
  • The capacity to navigate ambiguity and complexity, demonstrating self-motivation and independence.
  • A commitment to empowering team members to proactively influence and engage with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to influence senior decision-makers while managing stakeholder expectations.
