About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer – Metrology Specialist to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Mechanical Calibration department, you will be responsible for performing and supervising high-level calibration and repair of Mechanical Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and supervise high-level calibration and repair of TMDE, including resource management and calibration workload signoff.
- Write, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
- Participate in UKAS (ISO 17025) audits and achieve UKAS signatory status.
- Deliver on-the-job training and experiential learning to apprentices and lesser-experienced team members.
- Communicate professionally with technical stakeholders, including consultation on new measurement technologies.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in a precision Mechanical metrology laboratory environment.
- Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
- Relevant academic qualification (STEM degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Existing UKAS signatory status for Mechanical Calibrations (Pressure, Mass, Torque, Force).
- Experience in creating measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
- Experience in using automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).
